Feel Bad After Drinking? Doctors Reveal Their Secrets about Vitamins for Hangover Relief

Do you ever feel that as you get older you feel terrible after drinking alcohol? Do you find you are unable to indulge during a night out and then pop up the next day to go about your business? Or perhaps you pay the price for a few drinks with trouble sleeping all night and wake up with a splitting headache? If so, you are far from alone.
It seems as though most of us experience the toxic effects of alcohol the older we get. The proper medical term for this condition would be “the hangover”. Now you know what we are talking about.
As physicians we hear these complaints from our patients often. And, yes, we too have been known to have a cocktail or two and feel like it has wreaked havoc on our night’s sleep and the next day. So, what’s a person to do?

It turns out that we learned a few things in medical school that come in handy in preventing and treating the hangover.

If you were to show up in any Emergency Room intoxicated (not recommended), you would most likely be given a bag of bright yellow IV fluid, called a “Banana Bag.” This mysterious concoction of fluid, vitamins and electrolytes is known to combat the toxic effects of alcohol by competing with the alcohol to bind various receptors in brain cells. The effects are somewhat magical. It turns out that much of the bad feeling that accompanies a hangover is related to dehydration. Your whole body is dehydrated from alcohol’s diuretic effect and, in particular, the cells in your brain are dehydrated, causing that terrible headachy feeling. The Banana Bag combines fluid and the right electrolytes to help rehydrate and plump back up those dried out brain cells, something water alone can not accomplish.
Sounds good doesn’t it? Wish you could just carry around a Banana Bag with you all night when you imbibe? Well you can. Kind of. When we founded Vous Vitamin® and brainstormed about the benefits of vitamins, the Banana Bag’s effects were high on our list.

How can you get the benefits of this hospital grade treatment for the toxic effects of alcohol in the comfort of your own home or place of work?

We decided to create our own version, in pill form. Our Recovery Act Situational Supplement is just that. It’s a little yellow pill that comes in a handy pocket sized pack. You can bring it out with you and start preventing your hangover before it happens. Take one pill with a large glass of water (the fluids are still important) early in the evening and then take another before bed. You will likely not even feel the need for another in the morning, but you can take one if needed.

So, how much is too much alcohol?

As physicians, it is our duty to tell you not to overdo it with alcohol. The recommended average for women is one drink per day and two drinks per day for men. However, we know that we are all bound to push our limits from time to time. Recovery Act is intended to help you feel your best despite indulging from time to time. It is the ideal blend of Thiamine, Folate ( B vitamins), and magnesium based on the magical Banana Bag components used by doctors everywhere to combat the toxic effects of alcohol.

The Recovery Act can be an occasional part of your custom vitamin regimen. This should start with an all in one custom daily vitamin. Take our vitamin quiz to get yours.

What’s new in 2022?

It turns out that more and more data confirms the important role of vitamins and electrolytes to help combat the toxic effects of alcohol. Many vitamin combinations have been touted for this, but few with better proven effects. IV Vitamin shops are popping up in many locations but their benefit is questionable, their cost is great, and there are concerns about their safety and complications (getting a needle inserted into your vein is not necessary  to provide you with the right nutrients as long as you are capable of eating and drinking). So skip the costly invasive route and stock up on some Recovery Act in addition to an all-in-one daily vitamin to feel your best.
